The Beginner's Supply Guide

   |   Before Buying   |   In the Aquarium   |

Starting an aquarium is a daunting task. Not only are you caring for a living creature, but a living creature requiring a living environment entirely different than what humans are designed for. Worst of all, this environment needs to be contained within a small, glass box. The chemistry and balance of it all is horrifying at first, so here are some tools and other supplies that will help keep your aquarium clean and safe for you and your fish. This is not a guide about how to set up an aquarium, rather a supplement to anyone thinking of starting one or who already has an aquarium in their home.

Books are a resource that can last a lifetime. The basics about fish-keeping have not changed much since the hobby started, only the equipment. Fish have been around for millions of years with the same blueprint, so books are unlikely to go out of date. Also, books are always ready in an instant.
