My Experience (summary of my own keeping)

Black skirt tetras are schooling fish, although, like most tetras, they sometimes break apart from the group and swim aimlessly around the aquarium as though they've suddenly realized they're late for something, can't remember what it was, then just return to schooling. That was a long sentence, but I feel like it accurately represents the lack of attention most tetras display.

The fish will sometimes chase each other, giving each other pecks. Although these pecks will cause fin damage, it is nothing too extreme or unhealthy for the fish. As the fish age, however, the playing can become too much, so use caution when mixing young and old fish if the school is small. Hopefully this review did not appear negative... these fish just play rough, as most tetras do.

Basic Behavior (based upon observations, readings and conversations)
