My Experience
(summary of my own keeping)
Timeless favorites
because of their docile nature and gentle
appearance, curviceps cichlids, also known as "flag
cichlids" or "flag acaras" (any common name seems
relevant as it is always changing), are a perfectly
peaceful addition to any aquarium. As with most
peaceful cichlids, they appreciate plants for
shelter or other aquarium decor.
These small cichlids
behave extremely well and tend to keep to
themselves. They can be kept with their own species
without any trouble and often look better when
paired together. Unlike most peaceful cichlids,
these fish are not afraid to beg for food or jump to
the surface when food is present.
Although these fish can
take care of themselves quite well, the aquarium
should still be monitored to make sure they are not
being bullied. Curviceps cichlids are small and
susceptible to the will of other larger, more
aggressive fish. Providing ample shelter can remedy
this situation, or just removing the aggressors.
The only downside to
these fish is that their behavior is rather mundane.
In other words, they tend to do the same thing
everyday. Their beauty and grace are the main
attractions.
